Ag commissioner: Please don't feed this to your pets

Oct 15, 2024

The North Carolina Agriculture Commissioner is cautioning pet owners not to use B&B brand pet foods.

If you have any of these products, throw them away and do not serve them to your pets:

B&B pet foods are not registered for sale as animal food in North Carolina and were not inspected in New Jersey, where they are made, to determine that they are safe.

A state inspection at Proformance Pet Supply in Greensboro found seven B&B products that did not have the right label as required North Carolina and federal law.

“Significant information was missing from the product label, and because the pet food products contain ingredients with a potential risk of pathogen contamination, they could put your pets at risk,” Agriculture Commissioner Steve Troxler said. “If you have purchased this product and still have it, please do not feed it to your pets.”

B&B pet foods are sold frozen in a silver, foil, stand-up pouch with resealable closure with a white label with black ink.

“We encourage consumers to check their refrigerators and freezers and discard any of these products,” said George Ferguson, NCDA&CS animal feed program administrator. “If you have any of the B&B pet food products, stop feeding it to your pets and throw it away in a secure container where other animals, including wildlife, cannot access it.”

After you throw away the pet food, clean any refrigerators or freezer where it was stored and any surfaces it might have come in contact with, and clean and disinfect all of your pet's bowls, utensils, bedding, and toys.

People should thoroughly wash their hands after handling the product or cleaning up potentially contaminated items and surfaces.

Pet owners can report complaints about pet food products by calling the Animal Feed Program Office at 984-236-4820 or by emailing complaint details to the N.C. Animal Feed Program at [email protected].
